Early tomorrow morning I leave Istanbul for Minneapolis. Some things I have learned on my trip...
1. Three weeks is a long time to be away from your loved ones...even with internet connections and facetime.
2. I love Turkish food...but miss my habitual favorites...Guatemalan coffee, chocolate chip cookies, and Diet Coke (no, Coca-Cola Light is not the same).
3. The people in Istanbul are friendly and proud...but I wish it was easier to relate to the women here. I found it easier to have conversations with men, who are predominately the waitstaff and shop owners in the city.
4. Istanbul has a lot of people in it...especially on the Tram.
5. I appreciate the mix of historical and modern...but not necessarily the overly ornate style.
6. Istanbul is full of surprises...just when I think I have something figured out, I see or hear something that doesn't fit my assumptions.
